Highkey lighting
- Creates ethereal vibe.
- Heavenly look. Peaceful, calming, hopeful.
- Limits shadows.
- Forgiving (makes people look good).
- Show as much detail of the subjects as possible.
- Highly lighting lights up the whole face.
- Quick and easy to set up.
- Often used in sitcoms as it lights up the whole scene when the characters often move around.
- Doesn't go into to much depth of emotion and tends to portray the subjects as innocent and good.
Low-key lighting
- Opposite to highkey lighting.
- High contrast lighting (light tones very light, dark tones very dark).
- Pessimistic.
- Mysterious, dramatic and foreshadowing.
- Intense dramatic scenes, convey emotions.
- Often used in action and drama based films.
- Higher lighting ratio.
